The Addiction of Compulsive Shopping

3, 2, 1 . . . shop?

Here we are, at yet another Black Friday.

Many of us have already set aside a budget, done our research, and finally came out with a short list. These will be the new goodies to join our pile of stuff.

Others of us have been shopping on a ‘Black Friday’ spree all year. Massive discounts happen not just once a year. I know I’ve been holding myself from buying items I fell in love with on the smartphone screen, yet in the new reality — stay at home and go out mostly only for shopping — they’re things I don’t need.

Maybe you can relate to this. I know I’ve shopped when I was feeling bored, or a little depressed, or I felt low on my self-esteem and I knew shopping for some fashion item will make me feel better.

Not just a few times.

Many, many, many times, during many years.

Yet, in the modern society, we’ve replaced healthy connection with other sources of satisfaction. Those are just one click away, on sale and with limited availability to name a few.

When shopping gives us a pleasing experience, it’s so convenient to come back for more!

Other pressing, nagging issues can be locked in the closet, while keeping our attention on a shiny new ‘thing’, coming with a quick swipe or at a press of a single button. With free delivery — yay, more joy!
