The Gift of Light

A Comfort in Dark Times

I love bathing in the grace of light,
soaking in its tantalizing shades,
strength and splendour.

How it hides behind objects, peering
and waiting to creep out and delight
us grey creatures with its mystical glow.

In summer, to brighten up our days
for hours on end strutting arm in arm
with its chum, the warmth of the sun.

And in winter to give comfort and hope,
with the promise of darkness becoming
brighter and briefer.

Light, our companion, you are forever
somewhere out there guiding us through
the seasons of our lives.

I have taken to looking up to light in moments of distress. This is my saving grace in a world I feel is on the tipping edge. Light is everywhere, shining through even the smallest crack.

At night, we have the moon and the stars, a candle, a warm lamp. Its positive effect on my spirit never fails to astonish me.
