The blackness was enveloping faster than light could fight. It brought a wave of water that filled her brain. It seeped into her eyes and gave a translucent darkness. It plugged her nose, blocking scents of pleasure and the stench of humanity. It reached her mouth, welding it shut.
Her skin took on a pale blue hue. People would scatter and move away horrified when she entered. Was it beginning to show?
A zombie came up to her, “Where did you find the brain?”
“What brain?”
“Er, you’re one us, aren’t you?”
“I’m no one.”
The zombie was discomfited. The empty space in his head crackled as if to electrocute him into going away.
That night at the local zombie haunt, “Brains & Brews”, the zombie related the story of the almost zombie with a brain.
