Automation Anywhere

I was recently introduced to Automation Anywhere, a tool for implementing Robotic Process Automation or RPA into various business models. RPA ‘bots’ are a very exciting and adaptable technology and I’d like to share what I learned about its possible applications and implementations.

The concept of an RPA is just as useful and seemingly unbridled as it sounds. RPA enables a developer to create bots that automate business processes. These ‘bots’ can be programmed to serve the client similar to how a Web Worker would serve the back-end of an application, potentially handling thousands of processes simultaneously. Like a digital employee or AI, an RPA enabled service could handle customer interactions without bottlenecking the system or application infrastructure.

Another great feature of RPA ‘bots’ is the fact that they can be configured to work within a company’s existing ecosystem. These ‘bots’ interact with systems in the same way we do and, most impressively, they have the ability to learn, clone, and scale at the whim of the developer. ‘Bots’ require no code, are non-disruptive to existing processes, non-invasive, and easy to implement. On an enterprise level, the ability for these bots to easily work within existing systems, especially legacy systems, offers an alternative to the time-consuming process of refactoring large portions, if not completely overhauling, existing codebases.

Personally, I found these concepts fascinating and am considering Automation Anywhere University’s Bot Developer trial.
