What is a wetland meadow?

To understand what Gosling Sike is trying to do with the site and how they are going about it, I need to understand what a wetland meadow is.

It is heavily debated that a wetland meadow is either a type of marsh or a very similar but separate type of wetland. I personally think it is a separate type of wetland due to the different plants and creatures that live in this environment. It is a habitat that has soils that are saturated for most or all of the growing season and can be found next to small rivers, streams and small lakes. Often found in more remote locations an abundance of wildlife is found here. In short, it is an area of land where the ever-changing volume of water determines or influences most of the area’s biogeochemistry. Manmade wetland tends to be built around 5 years and is maintained thoroughly afterwards until the wetland can become self-sufficient.

Many plants that can be found on these sights include Lady’s Smock, Marsh Marigold, Bugle and Ragged Robin. Meadow flowers can be found here also but tend to differ highly between each specific meadow due to different lengths of time the meadow has been flooded, the soils levels i.e. Ph and Acidic and also the time of year the meadow floods. Purple moor grass can often be seen on these such meadows as it thrives in rich water bogged ground. However, this plant tends to dominate all that surrounds it and so may become a problem if it populates too well. This, of course, can be kept to a regulated amount throughout the year.
