Finding A Way To Understand Time

30 miles northwest of San Antonio stands the small German enclave of Boerne, with its population of 10,000, mostly the descendants of German immigrants who came to Texas in the 1850s. In this most…

— In my life I have have shown up much too early, and arrived far too late. Of course this is only if you ask anyone else but me…

We live most of our lives according to a timeline that our culture dictates for us.

Those of us who stray too far behind or jump too far forward are left to feel out of sync with the group.

But I am here to tell you that the times in my life I’ve been made to feel “too young, too old, too early or late” by my own brain are actually some of the best occurrences that led me to who I am proud to be today.

I was too young when I fell in love, and far to young to get married when I did so against everyone’s wishes. I sit here 12 years later & thank my young naive heart for making such a leap of faith with the man who is still by my side, and who makes me feel loved each and everyday since.

I was too late when I signed up for school, and definitely too late to make it as an artist when I signed up for community college classes. If being a 28 year old in a room of 18 year olds doesn’t make you feel late, I don’t know what will. But it will also make you feel more comfortable in your own skin than you ever were before.

Married at 18, (too young, much too early)

Moving around for 12 years without ever owning a house. (Get a move on)

Married 12 years and no kids? (Must not want them.)

Turned 30 and still no kids? (It might just be too late)

All these thoughts & fears mostly come from my own head, but I certainly didn’t come up with them all on my own. I know you’ve felt the enormity of the pressure of time at one point or another. And this is normal, what’s not normal or helpful is living your life according to anyone else’s timeline.

Your life is a magnificently unique experience that only you can bring to its full potential. You know this, and you’ve felt this each time you made a tiny little decision that took you off the path everyone else was on.

Those little flits of joy & hope & passion are what makes you who you are. If you’re listening & paying attention they will help you find your own way. A way in which there isn’t such a thing as too young, too old, too early, too anything.

Instead you begin to trust your own timing & your own intuition and to anyone who questions you, you can smile kindly at them and maybe just for a moment they’ll feel a little inkling of stepping their toe off the path too.
